WHA Little Eagles In-House Program

The Westmoreland Hockey Association "Little Eagles" Program is an in-house program designed for new and beginner level players who are looking to experience the sport of ice hockey. The Little Eagles program gives players a fun, safe and competitive playing atmosphere from ages 4 to 10 years old. Whether you are coming from the Little Pens Learn-to-Play program or you are a looking to have your child learn in a more structured environment, our program will give you the practice time necessary to advance your skills and enjoy the game of hockey! The Little Eagles operate as a feeder system for our WHA 8U Mite Program.

Little Eagles practices have moved to Wednesday evenings starting at 5:10 pm. This is a shared ice slot with the 8U Mite skaters. Westmoreland Hockey hopes that this change will allow In-House players to benefit from the coaching staff, developmental structure and station-based practices as implemented for our travel Mite program. Little Eagles players will participate at their own pace, as a group, and will not be expected to keep up with the Mite skaters.

  • Beginner or new players from ages 4 – 10 are eligible.
  • Program begins on October 4, 2023 and continues through mid-March 2024.
  • Practices will be held once a week. Wednesdays from 5:10 pm to 6:05 pm.
  • Cost of the Little Eagles Program is $375 and includes:
    • Registration Fee
    • Game Jersey
    • Hockey Socks
    • Participation in the 13th Annual Laurel Mite 8U Jamboree in March 2024.
      • Eligibility based upon birth year 2015 or later.
    • Invitation to the Season End Banquet at Dave & Busters and a player gift!
  • Enrollment after Dec. 1 is $300.

To Register:

  • Registration is now available on our website.
  • Questions: please email WHA Board Member Lauren Gradwell at westmorelandhockeyregistrar@gmail.com.
  • You must register online with USA Hockey (www.usahockey.com) to get a membership number. There is a cost for membership for players over the age of 6.

Full hockey equipment is required for this program. If your child has no skating experience, please enroll them in Kirk Nevin Arena’s Learn to Skate Program before registering for the Little Eagles Program. Information on that program is available on the WHA website and on the City of Greensburg web site: www.greensburgpa.org. This program replaces the former WHA Learn to Play Hockey program.

Other Beginner Programs

WHA and Kirk S. Nevin Arena operate three (3) programs for beginner skaters. Each program advances the skaters' abilities from beginner to the WHA 8U Travel Mite Program. Depending on the skaters' ability, you may choose to skip one or several of these programs.

1. Learn to Skate (Administered by Kirk S. Nevin Arena/ISI Figure Skating)

2. Little Pens Learn-to-Play Program

3. WHA In-House Hockey
