By MLN 04/27/2021, 7:15am EDT

Nominations are now being accepted for the WHA 2021-2022 Board of Directors.

All current WHA members are able to nominate candidates (including themselves) for the Board. Please visit the link here to make your submission: www.surveymonkey.com/r/2TGXYVL

Nominations are open through May 4, 2021. After the nomination period ends, we will compile a list of candidates to be voted upon for our six (6) board openings. These openings carry a two (2) year term, beginning July 1, 2021 and ending June 30th, 2023.

All nominees will be asked whether they wish to remain on the ballot and serve on the board.

BOD voting will tentatively take place at tryouts in June. We are working on an alternative method of voting for those who will not be attending tryouts (including Mite families ).

WHA Alum Matt Bertani is bringing his MB Instructional Camp to Center Ice Arena from June 21 to June 25, 2021. More information can be found on their website. https://www.hockeycoachescorner.com/instructional-camp

Several WHA coaches have assisted with this program over the years.

New for 2021: MB Instructional Camp has added a new instructor to the team, Janine Weber. Janine is a perennial NWHL All-Star and current member of the Connecticut Whale.  She was a member of the Austrian National and Olympic teams, competing in 10 World Championships. She earned her master's degree playing NCAA Division I hockey at Providence College.

For our goalies, James Mello will be providing goaltending specific instruction. James, a standout at Dartmouth, is co-owner of RI Hockey Academy. James specializes in goaltending instruction and one-on-one skill development. James starred as a Rhode Island high school goaltender at LaSalle Academy before heading to Dartmouth, where he is a member of the college's Athletic Hall of Fame. PAHL Covid Update - November 18, 2020

By MLN 11/18/2020, 1:30pm EST

PAHL has sent the following message to member organizations to provide guidance in the wake of the recent mask mandate issued by the PA Department of Health.

Teams,

As hopefully you have all been notified by your association at this point, new PA government mandates state that everyone involved in indoor and outdoor sporting activity must wear masks.  This includes the players, coaches, admin personnel, spectators, officials - everyone.  This includes practices and games.  See new government mandates posted on the PAHL website at https://www.pahockey.com/covid19.

This must be policed at the association/team level.  Please provide this information to all of your coaches, and families.  We are at the point in this Covid environment that everyone needs to knuckle down and do the right thing to stop the spread.

There are several alternatives for players.

1.  Conventional mask or gaiter across the face next to the skin under the helmet.

2.  Masks that attach to the cage/helmet that provide a small buffer between the mouth and the mask.  You can view these on the Pure Hockey website.  Your local pro shop may also have them.  If you have a crafty volunteer he/she may be able to make them by copying the picture online.  Just make sure that they have adequate coverage.  (see this link for one type:  https://www.purehockey.com/product/ccm-game-on-player-face-mask/itm/44401-2/)

3.  Clear face shields with the added "spit shield" at the bottom covering the chin area.

Note that with officials being asked to wear masks also, their ability to utilize their whistles may be a bit compromised.  Please make your coaching staff aware of this and ask them to be patient during games.

We are fortunate to be able to play our game with full teams in this pandemic.  This is just another little bump in the road to be able to continue forward.

We will keep you updated as to any changes as they happen.

IT IS JUST A MASK.  WEAR THEM.

Thanks.
Darcee Purvis
Executive Director, PAHL

2020-21 Arena Rule Update

By MLN 10/09/2020, 1:15pm EDT

To:     WHA Team Managers

From: Trudy Ivory, Arena Manager

RE:     Arena Guidelines and Safety

Welcome to the 2020/2021 ice season! Below is a list of important info that your coaches, players and parents need to be aware of:

  • The arena is owned by the City of Greensburg
  • WHA is the largest user group of ice usage for the arena. But you are NOT the only user group. There are 3 school districts, PIHL, Group Lessons for Tots through Adult, Greensburg Figure Skating Team, public session skaters and assorted pickup teams. The gentle reminder is that there is a lot that goes on in this building and each group is important to me.
  • If you decide to have a scrimmage game that was not listed on the schedule, tell me. Locker rooms will need marked.
  • If you are scheduling a party tell me. Your team may use the counter/stools and if necessary, we will set up a table.
  • The meeting room is NOT for parties. The only time any food items are permitted in the meeting room is if it is for adults. My staff has wiped more cake, ketchup, drinks, etc. off the walls and floors than necessary.
  • The rear doors are emergency exits only.
  • The garage and any other area clearly marked “keep out” or “employees only”, mean just that. My insurance company is adamant from a liability perspective that there are areas in this building that are NOT open to the public.
  • NO ONE is permitted to walk on the ice. Only USA Hockey registered players and coaches are permitted on the ice in skates.
  • Locker rooms need monitored by your team. Your child will do things when they are in a group setting that they would NEVER do at home or in your presence. This is your Home Ice. If you wouldn’t draw obscene items on the walls at home, don’t do it here.
  • When is doubt…ask!
